Ray Coffey

Ray Wesley Coffey Jr., 70, of Manhattan, Kansas passed away on May 8th.

 

Ray was born on July 1, 1954, in Lawton, Oklahoma. He was a graduate of Lincoln (Nebraska) East High School, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.

 

He married Maxine Kubicek in 1979 and moved to Manhattan, Kansas as a Field Artillery Lieutenant in the U.S. Army at Fort Riley. Ray also served in the U.S. Army Reserves and retired from a long career in the Federal Civil Service at Fort Riley.

 

Throughout his life in Manhattan, Ray was actively involved in scouting with his sons as a den leader and scoutmaster with Troop 74 at the First Presbyterian Church. He was a dedicated Community volunteer. He served on the Friends of McCain Board of Directors, was a CASA volunteer, a youth soccer coach, and a dedicated blood donor and sponsor of American Red Cross blood drives in Manhattan and Philadelphia.

 

He loved skiing, sailing, tailgating with friends at the Kansas State football games, traveling, family canoe trips, visiting as many national parks as possible, gardening (especially irises) and, most of all, spending time with family and friends.

 

Ray is survived by his wife, Maxine Coffey; his son, Christopher Coffey, and his wife, Amy, and their daughters, Violet and Willow; his brother, Doug Coffey, and his wife, Kimberly; his sister, Mary Coffey; his brother, John Coffey, and his wife, Debbie, and their sons, Matt and Mike; his brother, Greg Coffey, and his wife, Kim, and their children: Emily, Justin, Olivia, Jordan, Anna, Jared, Elise, and Jason; and his nephew, Sean Kubicek.

He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Coffey; his parents, Ray Sr. and Velda Coffey; his brother-in-law, David Kubicek; his sister-in-law, Cheryl Kubicek; and his brother-in-law, John Kubicek.

The family will greet friends during a visitation on Sunday, May 18th from 1-3pm at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.  

Memorial services will be held on Monday, May 19th at 2pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Manhattan.
